Resources for Administrative Staff

Thanks to interinstitutional agreements between Rice University and the health-related institutions of the Texas Medical Center (TMC), Rice students can take part in research or internship experiences at the world’s largest medical complex.

ENRICH seeks to provide guidance, support and resources to department administrative staff and course directors to assist in student placement in the TMC.

Rice-TMC Experiential Education Network (REEN)

The Rice-TMC Experiential Education Network (REEN) is composed of administrative staff and course directors across the Rice campus who facilitate undergrad and graduate student appointments in the TMC.

Activities of the network are led by the office of ENRICH and the Rice Internship Council, under the guidance of a steering committee that represents undergraduate, masters, and PhD students.

What we do
  • Identify the population of Rice administrative staff and course directors who engage in the process of placing Rice students at TMC schools.
  • Draft, improve and share resources and forms to support the student placement process.
  • Provide a platform for the target audience to build connections while fostering real-time updates on our resources.

How to access our resources and become a REEN member

The REEN resources are housed in a Canvas Site that encourages real-time updates. We collaborate with Rice and TMC departments and admin offices to update these resources.

If would like to become a REEN member and receive access to the Canvas Site, plus communications on updates, please fill out the following form.

If you believe someone else from your area would benefit from this group, we encourage you to share the form with them.

Salary Reimbursement Agreement (SRA)

The information provided here is intended to assist Rice administrative staff who engage in the process of placing Rice Graduate Research Assistants in TMC labs.

What is a salary reimbursement agreement (SRA)? When is it needed and why?

It is an arrangement between Rice and our Texas Medical Center (TMC) partner institutions which allows one institution to recover the costs associated with a student registered at the outside institution wherein the student is participating in collaborative research activities with principal investigators at both institutions.

As you may know, Graduate Research Assistants (GRA) receive a stipend from their department. To ensure that the GRA continues to receive his/her stipend when conducting research outside of Rice, a salary reimbursement agreement (SRA) must be executed.

Example: If a full-time Rice student were to work on a collaborative project with an investigator at a TMC institution, the student would continue to be paid by Rice and the TMC institution would reimburse Rice for the cost.

Which students can benefit from a salary reimbursement agreement (SRA)?

The salary reimbursement agreement (SRA) is solely for the population of graduate students— graduate research assistants or GRAs— and it is not inclusive of undergraduate and master's students, or postdoctoral fellows.

If you have determined that a salary reimbursement agreement (SRA) must be executed, you can access an intake form, budgets spreadsheets, and guidance document in this link. Please note that these documents are subject to revision. Always use the provided link to access the most current information and forms whenever preparing a proposal for an SRA.
